The American University of Girne (Turkish: Girne Amerikan Universitesi) or GAU is a non-profit university established in the city of Girne, Northern Cyprus. This university was founded in 1985 by Mr. Serhat Akpinar as a higher education institution in the same style as the American universities. Currently, this university has more than 20,000 students from 135 different countries and more than 18,000 students have been graduated.

One of the prominent features of GAU is its international reputation. It is worth mentioning that GAU educational programs have been approved by the Ministries of Education in many countries such as Western Europe, USA, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Thailand, Iran, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Kazakhstan.

The Faculty of Engineering in American University of Girne, includes 7 departments including Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering.
